A phone that charges slowly does not always need a new battery. Start with these five simple checks before buying a replacement charger.
1. Check the cable and adapter
Look for bent connectors, frayed cable ends, or a loose fit. Try a compatible charger and cable that you know work properly. A damaged or unsuitable accessory can reduce charging speed.
2. Use a wall outlet
A computer USB port or low-power adapter may charge more slowly than a compatible wall charger. Make sure the cable is firmly connected at both ends.
3. Inspect the charging port
Pocket lint or dust can stop the plug from sitting properly. Switch off the phone and look into the port with a light. If it needs cleaning, follow your phone maker’s guidance. Do not push metal objects into the port.
4. Let the phone cool down
Charging may slow when a phone gets hot. Move it out of direct sunlight and pause demanding tasks, such as gaming or video recording, while it charges.
5. Check charging settings
Some phones let you turn fast charging on or off. Open the battery settings and check the available options for your model. Also remember that charging commonly slows as the battery gets close to full.
If the phone still charges unusually slowly with a compatible charger and cable, contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair provider.
